We remain very concerned about the physical security of Rapa Nui, but we are particularly concerned about the welfare and safety of members of the clan inside the Landmark Hotel Hanga Roa. Several sources report that heavy armed Chilean police surrounded the hotel, 24 hours a day. We have also warned that the electricity has been cut, and there is no provision for food or medical care. At one point it was reported that 13 people trapped in the hotel. Of the 13 people, two children, six women and one was older and impaired health (diabetes). Sources say
clan members have no way of communication with people outside of the hotel, including its lawyers. Dear Mr. President,
We write because of our concern about the situation on Easter Island (Rapa Nui), where the Chilean armed forces to carry out the eviction of Rapa Nui in the past five months were suspended.
We are very excited about the physical safety of all Rapa Nui (local) concerned, but we are particularly concerned about the welfare and safety of members of the clan inside the Hotel Hanga Roa. report
Several sources that heavily armed Chilean police around the hotel 24 hours a day to monitor the hotel, and no one can get out and clean.

We write to our concern about the situation instead of Easter Island (Rapa Nui), where the Chilean armed forces were carrying out forced evictions of Rapa Nui natives in the past five months to comment on. We remain very concerned about the physical security of Rapa Nui, but we are particularly concerned about the welfare and safety of members of the clan inside the Landmark Hotel Hanga Roa. Several sources report that heavy armed Chilean police surrounded the hotel, 24 hours a day. We have also warned that the electricity has been cut, and there is no provision for food or medical care. At one point it was reported that 13 people trapped in the hotel. Of the 13 people, two children, six women and one was older and impaired health (diabetes). Sources say
clan members have no way of communication with people outside of the hotel, including its lawyers. We urge the State Department to quickly take position against these measures, since the time of the essence and Chile, has threatened to expel the members of the clan inside the Hotel Hanga Roa, on 8 February 2011.
